Simply put, chip timing is the easiest way to electronically time your race. Zone4 has taken years to develop the world’s most advanced timing chip with one goal in mind – to make timing simple.
How chip timing works:

- Timing Points i.e. Start, Finish, Split, are set up on a race course. In the world of Zone4 timing points are made up of Activators, Wire Loops and a phone.
- Racers are assigned GoChips. This can be done the day before, or assigned on site the day of the race.
- A GoChip worn by a racer crosses the timing point. When the chip is in the middle of the loop, the chip records the time at that timing point.
- The GoChip sends that time to any nearby phones running the GoChip App. If there are no phones nearby, it will keep trying for up to 72 hours. (GoChip can store up to 30 times before it needs to communicate with the app.)
- Times are sent from the GoChip app to your website. Race results are updated as soon as a time is received. If you don’t have an internet connection, the app will store all the times it receives until the connection is restored.
So why use chip timing?
Chip timing is the most reliable and precise way to time your event. The wearable chip, designed for comfort, ensures accurate timing regardless of where it’s worn. Paired with a weatherproof activator and flexible software, GoChip guarantees seamless timing without the need for constant network connectivity. If you want to make timing simple, chip timing is the way to go.
