Job Title: Race Timing Manager (Full Time Position) July 16, 2021

Location: Canmore, Alberta

Then the Race Timing Manager position is for you! As Race Timing Manager you will develop expertise in all aspects of race timing including hardware, software, communication, planning and logistics. You will command a team of fellow nerds to pull off timing the most amazing races in the country! This full time position is a key role within Zone4’s growing team and we need the best technical ringleader!

Your Roles and Responsibilities will primarily include:

  • Gathering Event Requirements: you will gather requirements from race organizers to make sure the correct system approach is planned and executed for their event. This requires an intimate knowledge of both timing hardware and software capabilities. Coordinating with the development team will be required to ensure required features are ready and tested.
  • Booking Events in our Reservation System: you will gather equipment needs and manage event bookings in Zone4’s inhouse reservation system.
  • Remote Support Management: You will manage a team of remote support and on-site race timers to ensure race requirements are translated into successful events. This includes scheduling and training members of the remote support team and on-site contractors and supporting those team members and events on race days.
  • Train Organizers on Zone4’s timing systems: you will communicate with race organizers over the phone, email and video, taking them through Zone4’s Test Kit experience and making sure they have the confidence and necessary knowledge to use our awesome timing equipment.
  • Managing Timing Equipment Inventory: You will work with the manufacturing team and multiple remote equipment hubs and hub managers to plan equipment forecasts and assist in gear restocking and resource allocation.
  • Assist in Shipping and Receiving: Assist and train staff on shipping and receiving of the weekly timing equipment rentals.
  • Time races: When necessary, we love to travel to key events such as World Cup or National level events that require core team member involvement on-site. 

Secondary Responsibilities 

  • Assist the Sales/Marketing Team: Help with Marketing Research and contact new potential events/organizations that would benefit from using the Zone4 Timing/Registration System.
  • Emergency support for race timing: We take turns staffing the emergency race support phone for events that do not have dedicated staff assigned to them.
  • Manufacturing assistant: Help the manufacturing manager on different projects related to building GoChips and other parts of our timing system.
  • Technical Writing: We put a lot of effort into sharing our knowledge and that means our documentation and training material requires constant updating.
  • Software Testing: This is on all of us to ensure our software meets the needs of upcoming races and requires weekly testing.
  • Other duties as required: We are a small company and we all help out wherever it’s needed.

Zone4 is looking for one outstanding candidate to spearhead expansion in the flourishing event timing services market in eastern North America. The successful candidate will be employee #1 of the Zone4 East office!

  • Managing the eastern shipping hub for timing equipment rental to Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic provinces.
  • Planning, coordinating and executing sales and marketing efforts in eastern Canada (Quebec and Ontario) and the eastern US.
  • Providing emergency, remote, and on-site race support to races in eastern Canada and the US.

Emplacement

  • Gatineau (de préférence), Montréal ou bien Québec (à déterminer)- vous allez gérer un centre de location d’équipement de chronométrage, l’envoi d’équipement doit être facile et peu coûteux.
  • Au début, votre bureau et le centre de location d’équipement sera chez vous.

Étapes à court terme

  • 1 mois de formation au bureau de Zone4 à Canmore.
  • Organiser et donner un cours sur le système de chronométrage à certains clubs de cyclisme d’Ontario.
  • Donner du support de course à l’événement Sea Otter Canada ainsi que les championnats Canadiens de vélo de montagne.
  • Donner des présentations aux organisations sportives dans la région.
  • Aller à un des événements de GNCC pour donner du support à Sport-Tag.
  • Avoir comme objectif d’engager votre premier employé et ensuite trouver un endroit autre que votre maison pour ouvrir un bureau (une fois que vous avez assez d’événements pour le faire).

Job Title: Contract timer

Location: Across Canada and the US

Do you come from a racing background, like technology, work well under pressure, like to travel and get well paid for your efforts? This is the job for you!

Zone4’s roots are in x-country skiing and we always need more timers in winter, but this could be a year-round part time job timing everything from x-country, and downhill ski racing, enduro mountain biking, triathlons, running and more. (Did you hear we’re headed to ITU World Triathlon in Bermuda this year?)

This winter we made a video of the toughest type of race to time: X-country Sprint heats to give people who think they might be interested in racing time a feel for what it’s like. You’ll follow Zone4 founder Dan Roycroft time this race with nearly 20 years experience.
