Job Title: Event Coordinator Assistant and technology Manufacturing Assistant (Summer Student Position)

Event Coordinator Assistant

The Event Coordinator is responsible for managing all aspects of event bookings. In your role, you will communicate with race organizers to make sure their events run smoothly and efficiently, manage our booking system, and assist with shipping and receiving for our weekend rentals. You may also work specific weekends to support events with timing and may physically attend events to be an assistant or lead timer. 

Your Roles and Responsibilities will primarily include: 

Assist the equipment manager: Shipping and receiving of the weekly timing equipment rentals. Includes packing, unpacking and cleaning timing gear. 

Managing the Timing Equipment Inventory: Timing races requires a variety of gear, and you will assist with making sure we have what we need in stock. 

Coordinating Equipment Needs with Race Organizers: You will be in direct contact with race organizers, making sure they get the timing equipment they need for their event. 

Booking Events in our Reservation System: You will assist with booking events and races that happen year round. 

Time races: Some events require Zone4 Staff to attend and time the races. This involves traveling to the events (Covid restrictions dependant). 

Remote support for races: We support races over the phone from the Canmore office. 

Timing system weekly testing: Will complete a list of tests weekly to make sure the timing system is tested before the weekend events.

Making sure our Help documents are up to date: Work along with the Zone4 team to update and improve our Help documents about how to use the Zone4 Timing system and Registration system.

Secondary Responsibilities: 

Help with different Zone4 projects: Tutorial videos.

Communication & Marketing: Manage our Instagram and Facebook Pages.

Technology Manufacturing Assistant 

You will be working along with our head of manufacturing to build timing chips as part of our race timing system.   

In the final assembly of race timing equipment, the successful candidate will/be:

  • Demonstrate safe work practices and proper use of personal protective equipment at all times
  • Able to work alone, unsupervised, and collaborate as part of a multi-talented team
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Windows, Office, Google Docs, PDF, printing, etc.
  • Gain a basic understanding of electronic components, handling of lithium batteries, electrostatic discharge precautions
  • Solder through-hole components, connectors, wiring harnesses
  • Comfortable with basic hand tools, can operate drill press, grinder
  • Understand the properties and usage of epoxy, RTV silicone, adhesives, other resins
  • Diligently follow assembly processes to maintain high quality standards
  • Adhere to manufacturing schedule and logistics processes for successful delivery
  • Compile data for accurate, readable reports
  • Shipping/Receiving
  • Other duties as required

Pay: $20/hour

Hours: 30 to 40 hours per week

Job Title: Zone4 Eastern Hub Manager

Zone4 is looking for one outstanding candidate to spearhead expansion in the flourishing event timing services market in eastern North America. The successful candidate will be employee #1 of the Zone4 East office!

Your roles and responsibilities would include:

  • Managing the eastern shipping hub for timing equipment rental to Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic provinces.
  • Planning, coordinating and executing sales and marketing efforts in eastern Canada (Quebec and Ontario) and the eastern US.
  • Providing emergency, remote, and on-site race support to races in eastern Canada and the US.

We are looking for a long term commitment. As the captain of the Zone4 East ship, we need you to be in it for the long haul.

  • Self-motivated and independent worker – you’re on your own out there, at least for a little while, and you must excel at working independently
  • Love to problem solve – we need you to be smart, with the ability to learn quickly and solve technical problems
  • Strong leadership and management skills – we will eventually start building a team around you, you must be a natural leader
  • Excellent communicator and teacher – you will have to listen to people, sometimes frustrating and/or challenging people (but mostly awesome people), and you will have to teach these people to use the zone4 force
  • Strong writing skills – you don’t have to be a mind-bending word ninja, but proficient reading and writing in English is essential
  • Bilingual – English and French
  • Willing to travel
  • Willing to work weekends – this is when the real zone4 timing magic happens
  • Have space for rental timing equipment – approx 100 sq/ft or a spare bedroom should suffice, the space must be heated
  • Creative, resourceful, and adaptable – you will have to adapt to and creatively solve the daily operating challenges of running a small shipping hub and a satellite office
  • Knowledge of sports and race timing is an asset – because it’s what we do and what we love

Location

  • Quebec, Montreal, Gatineau or similar – you will be operating a rental hub, shipping must be easy and cheap (no remote access log cabins)
  • Initially, your office and the rental equipment storage will be in your home

Our short term milestones for you:

  • 1 month of training in the Canmore office
  • Facilitate and present a training course with Cycling Ontario clubs
  • Race support at Sea Otter Canada and Nationals XC MTB
  • Present demos to key clubs in the region
  • Travel to GNCC to support Sport-Tag in product development
  • Work towards hiring your first staff and expanding to office space outside of the home (once you’ve grown your sales base big enough)

Vos responsabilités seront:

  • La gestion du centre de location d’équipements de chronométrage pour l’Ontario, le Québec et les provinces Atlantiques.

  • Auto-motivé et indépendant- vous serez seul dans l’Est pour commencer jusqu’à ce que vous vous formiez une équipe.
  • Vous aimez régler des problèmes- vous devez être débrouillard, apprendre rapidement et régler des défis techniques rapidement.
  • Vous êtes un grand leader et grand gestionnaire de talents- éventuellement vous allez diriger une équipe, vous devez avoir du leadership!
  • Excellent pédagogue- vous allez devoir enseigner aux clients comment utiliser le système de chronométrage Zone4.
  • Une bonne connaissance du français et anglais- on ne vous demande pas d’avoir remporté des prix d’écriture mais vous devez être excellent pour écrire et lire en anglais et français.
  • Bilingue- anglais et français.
  • Disposé à voyager.
  • Disposé à travailler les week-ends! La magie de Zone4 se déroule en week-end.
  • Avoir un espace de rangement d’environ 100 pieds carrés ou bien une chambre de libre pour entreposer l’équipement. L’endroit doit être chauffé.
  • Créatif, ingénieux, débrouillard- vous allez devoir vous adapter et être créatif pour résoudre les défis journaliers, gérer un petit entrepôt d’équipement et bureau satellite.
  • Connaissance en sports et chronométrage de compétitions est un atout- parce que c’est ce que nous faisons et c’est ce que nous adorons faire!

Emplacement

  • Gatineau (de préférence), Montréal ou bien Québec (à déterminer)- vous allez gérer un centre de location d’équipement de chronométrage, l’envoi d’équipement doit être facile et peu coûteux.
  • Au début, votre bureau et le centre de location d’équipement sera chez vous.

Étapes à court terme

  • 1 mois de formation au bureau de Zone4 à Canmore.
  • Organiser et donner un cours sur le système de chronométrage à certains clubs de cyclisme d’Ontario.
  • Donner du support de course à l’événement Sea Otter Canada ainsi que les championnats Canadiens de vélo de montagne.
  • Donner des présentations aux organisations sportives dans la région.
  • Aller à un des événements de GNCC pour donner du support à Sport-Tag.
  • Avoir comme objectif d’engager votre premier employé et ensuite trouver un endroit autre que votre maison pour ouvrir un bureau (une fois que vous avez assez d’événements pour le faire).

Nous ne sommes pas tous des Rockstars, des légendes du service à la clientèle ou des spécialistes en vente, mais certains d’entres nous ont plusieurs de ces qualités. Il est nécessaire à l’occasion de travailler en soirée et nous sommes en forme tôt le lendemain matin pour le retour au boulot. Nous sommes des skieurs, des cyclistes, des coureurs, des photographes, des tricoteurs, et des gens qui aiment bien lire. Nous sommes terre à terre. Nous sommes curieux et aimons apprendre. La technologie est notre musique. Nous sommes des gens de famille, des gens simples avec le sourire radieux. Nous chassons constamment la poudreuse dans les montagnes et la boue sur nos vélos. Nous ne comprenons vraiment pas les costumes cravates. Nous travaillons avec un horaire flexible et suivons une règle stricte sur les jours de poudreuse. Nous savons qu’une grosse bordée de neige et que les sentiers de vélo en parfaite état sont des signes de l’univers pour prendre un jour de congé.

Location: Across Canada and the US

Zone4’s is a World leader in timing everything from x-country skiing, and downhill ski racing, enduro/DH mountain biking, triathlons, running and more.

If you prefer to not travel to events, we are also looking for hardware and software specialist who can support races from their confort home, wherever you are! Thats right! With our timing software, you can support a race remotely!

This winter we made a video of the toughest type of race to time: X-country Sprint heats to give people who think they might be interested in racing time a feel for what it’s like. You’ll follow Zone4 founder Dan Roycroft time this race with nearly 20 years experience.
